Google Consent Mode v2 and conversion tracking

Our website uses Google Consent Mode v2 to help manage cookies and tracking technologies in accordance with UK data protection laws, including the UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
What is Google Consent Mode v2?
Google Consent Mode v2 allows us to control how Google services behave based on your consent choices, specifically regarding:
  • ad_storage – for storing advertising-related data (e.g., Google Ads cookies)
  • analytics_storage – for storing analytics data (e.g., Google Analytics cookies)
  • ad_user_data – for sending user data to Google for advertising purposes
  • ad_personalization – for enabling personalised ads based on user behaviour

These settings are managed through the cookie consent banner where you can choose which types of cookies and data uses you allow.
How it works
If you consent to analytics or advertising cookies, Google services (like Google Ads and Google Analytics) can use cookies and collect personal data to measure conversions and deliver personalised ads.
If you decline or do not interact, Google Consent Mode adjusts the behaviour of its tags:
  • Cookies are not set for disallowed purposes.
  • Instead, cookieless pings are sent to Google to allow aggregated, non-identifying measurement (such as total conversions).
  • No personally identifiable information is used or stored unless explicit consent has been given.
Why we use it
We use this setup to comply with your privacy choices as required by law and to maintain some level of reporting functionality even when consent is not granted.
